Art law is a unique legal area that
involves an intimate marriage of legal theories and everyday situations facing the emerging or established artist.
Significant legal issues arise in the creation, sale, purchase, transfer and collection of art, including First Amendment
law issues, copyright law issues, contract law issues, tort law issues, tax law issues, moral rights legislation, museum accession
and deaccession rules and regulations and estate planning laws with an artist’s work. In today’s every increasing world where sight and sound play vital
roles in our daily lives, issues involving artistic works, whether visual or through sound, are ever prevalent and this course
will provide an opportunity to equip every artist with the basic tools to navigate the dynamic world and business of art.
Our attorneys are experts in the area of art law and lecture often to artists, collectors, curators and attorneys.
Attorney Caruso II has published several articles in this area and is currently serving as an adjunct faculty member at Boston
University in the Arts Administration Masters program.
